Joshua and Moses

The Joshua Generation was able to enter the promised land while Moses’ generation just saw it from afar. The difference? FAITH IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES.

Moses overwhelmed with the circumstances around him became stressed out, and agitated that he stuck the rock. The Lord just commanded him to “SPEAK to that rock” (Number 20:8) so the people can drink but instead, he struck the rock twice with his staff (Numbers 20:11).

He did not just strike it once, but twice. This shows the anger and unrest in his heart.

What happened? Where is the Moses who is the “most humble man” in Genesis? The Moses who walked with God and witnesses the biggest miracles on the Bible in Exodus? What happened here?

I believe, Moses became focused on the problem instead of the face of God that he started to lose hope and lacked faith. He failed to see God’s power and ability in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES.

Joshua on the other hand never lost sight of Jesus. Despite seeing giants himself as a spy, he and Caleb saw God’s might and how His glory can be revealed in the circumstance they were in. HE HAD FAITH IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES.

And it was what God was looking for. That’s what it also took in winning battles in the promised land.

Joshua did not do anything outside of His faith with God.

– He saw His strength, the giants were nothing
– He ushered Rahab’s salvation and her whole clan by having a covenant with God
– He obeyed God on how to conquer Jericho
– He led Israel to repent after Acan’s sin and led their defeat with Ai.
– He waited on God to rescue and led them in all their battles

He never lost sight of what this POWERFUL God can do. HE HAD FAITH IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES.

You have been waiting in entering your promised land. But you know what’s stopping you? You are too focused on yourself, of the people around you, of the circumstances around you — all YOU.

Instead of looking at JESUS who is your deliver who wants to show His might and power in your circumstances.

Don’t be a Moses today.

Be a Joshua Generation.
