People follow people. It’s a fact. We are interconnected and we influence each other. We see Angel eating tacos and we get the appetite of eating tacos too. Julia cooked seafood pasta and we make our own version later. John and Caryl went to Thailand for their family vacation, we also book our next holiday and visit another country.
We influence each other. What we wear, where to eat, the next nice getaway road trip, a serene beach resort… the wild adventure theme park.
We mostly get ideas from our networks surrounding us. And what we allow to influence us become who we are and thus the saying, “tell me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you are”. Because we intend it or not, we tend to copy each other and are shaped by what we listen, watch, and read.
Safe or not?
So to what extent should we allow these ideas to influence us? I believe it’s ok as long as we don’t envy and we don’t follow unrighteousness.
Like I follow some of Casey Miller’s ways. I’ve lived with their family for 3-4 years and I have seen how she homeschools and trains her kids in the ways of God. How she invests in each time and love… how she cooks for her family… And it’s good. The Bible talks about this in Proverbs 31, to be godly wife and mom. So I homeschool Tice and Sovi too. Some of my recipes are from her.
My parents are also still very loving to each other after 34 years of marriage and we follow them. Because it’s godly. The Bible talks about how husbands and wives should respect and love each other to reflect Jesus and his bride. So Jay and I have have dates and we make sure we get to talk intimately each day and serve each other all day long. We pause in our busy schedules to kiss and hug, laugh and kiss again. We consciously make efforts to let our love grow.
But I don’t follow Vice Ganda’s ideals. He is smart and funny. But I don’t agree with his lifestyle. It’s not good. The Bible is against sin like homosexually. So I don’t watch him and listen to him or else I will be entertained and look past his ungodly message because he can make me laugh.
(Note: I don’t hate Vice Ganda. I pray for him actually and all those under this chain. I believe one day I will see him saved giving testimony of God’s grace in his life. The same with all my friends under homosexuality.)
We need to make standards of what we allow our lives to be influenced with.
Our life is our message
It’s so easy to decide who and what we allow our lives to be influenced because each speaks for itself.
Like when Dr. Michael L. Brown posts something in his Facebook page, I don’t scrunitize and do a back research if his values are according to the Bible because I know him as a man of God for years. His wisdom is sound and He is doing the will of the Father. So it’s easy for me to repost his posts because I know his message through his life.
Now the question is, what do you think is our life message? What will people see if they look at us? It’s important to answer this question because someone is following us too! It may be our high school classmates, a colleague at work, a relative – they are looking at us and are influenced by us as well. What we eat, places we go to, how we respond to situations, how we treat our kids, and how we basically live life.
We get to influence our networks no matter how small. So let’s make sure they see Jesus in all that we say and do.
Live righteously. Stand for the truth. Love Him passionately. Be on fire. Because we may be the last Light they will be see before they enter eternity. Influence lives around you for Jesus by living in His words.
Haters Gotta Hate
There is evil in this world and not all will understand your passion for Jesus.
Resistance is the initial reaction especially by the spirit of religion. What will you feel in there’s resistance? Be real – cry of you need to. But don’t be discouraged, understand instead. They have a different worldview. They grew up in a world where sin is normal and sanctification is achieve through good works. So you coming in their newsfeed bringing His truth in their compromised lifestyles, is an invitation for resistance of course. For some, they react because your life brings guilt and instead of repenting and getting right with God will, they will attack you unwilling to make it right.
But don’t get affected. Press on and keep shining. Don’t hate. Look each through His eyes. Love. People react to change and to whatever they don’t understand. So pray for them instead that their eyes will be opened. One day you will see breakthroughs in their lives and it’ll be worth it.
By life and by death
Because what will we lose really? The acceptance of man? Nope. He alone should be our identity and definition. Worst comes to worst, we get killed because of our beliefs. But even if this happens, did we actually lose something? No. Because we all die anyways. Better make our lives count for the Gospel so others will see the truth and live with Jesus in eternity. Ain’t that a great cause?
But you know what the good thing is? If there’s resistance, there is also acceptance. Yes there will be people posting status against you and even sending you threats. But there will also be lives who will be influenced for the Kingdom. Lives who will be encouraged to also stand for the truth. Whose hearts will be sparked to be on fire for Jesus. Lives who will be magnetized to your passion and will also do the will of the Father… Lives who will also burn their homes, offices, schools and cities with the fire of the Holy Spirit through complete surrender and devotion. It’s all worth it!
So overflow with love for the Lord. People follow people… Make sure they’re following the Holy Ghost in you!
